Analyze the difference between No. 5 battery and 18650 lithium battery

Many people do not know what type of battery the 18650 lithium battery is. They always think that the 18650 lithium battery is the same size as the commonly used No. 5 battery and can be mixed. What are the differences between No. 5 battery and 18650 lithium battery.

1、 What is the No. 5 battery?

No. 5 battery (i.e. AA, R6) is one of the battery types. Its general size is 14mm in diameter and 50mm in height. No. 5 battery is widely used in many small appliances and digital products because of its small size and moderate capacity.

2、 What is the 18650 lithium battery?

18650 lithium battery is a type of cylindrical battery, also called 18650 lithium ion battery. The battery cell is mainly composed of five parts: metal shell, positive pole, negative pole, film and electrolyte. They perform their own duties to ensure normal charging and discharging. The 18650 is not a number of batteries, but a type A battery. The numbers 18650 in 18650 lithium batteries represent the external dimensions: 18 refers to the battery diameter of 18.0mm, and 650 refers to the battery height of 65.0mm. Common 18650 batteries are divided into lithium ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries and nickel hydrogen batteries.

3、 What are the differences between No. 5 battery and 18650 lithium battery?

  1. The size of No. 5 battery is different from that of the 18650 lithium battery. Although the 18650 and No. 5 batteries look similar, they are actually different in size. The 18650 lithium battery is 18 mm in diameter and 65 mm in length; The rule of No. 5 battery (actually, the scientific name of No. 5 battery is 14500 battery) is 14 mm in diameter and 50 mm in length. 18650 is much larger than No. 5 battery in both length and diameter.
  2. The voltage of No. 5 battery is different from that of 18650 lithium battery: the voltage of lithium battery is 3.7V (rechargeable), the voltage of lithium iron phosphate battery is 3.2V (rechargeable), and the voltage of No. 5 battery is 1.5V (non rechargeable) or 1.2V (rechargeable).
  3. The working principles of No. 5 battery and 18650 lithium battery are different: their working principles (internal chemical reaction process) are different.
  4. The 18650 lithium battery is a rechargeable battery. Most of the ordinary No. 5 batteries are disposable batteries. There are few or no rechargeable batteries.
  5. The field of use of No. 5 battery is different from that of 18650 lithium battery: No. 5 battery is a common type of battery in our life, which is commonly used in toys, home appliances and digital products. The life theory of 18650 lithium battery is 500-1000 times of cyclic charging. Due to the large capacity of unit density, most of them are used in notebook computer batteries.

In addition, the 18650 lithium battery is widely used in various electronic fields because of its excellent stability in work: it is commonly used in high-end flashlights, portable power supplies, wireless data transmitters, electric heating warm clothing, shoes, portable instruments and meters, portable lighting equipment, portable printers, industrial instruments, medical instruments, etc.
